Officially a Marathoner

My dad, my mom and I before my debut marathon
My dad, my mom and I before my debut marathon

This past weekend was one of those weekends I will never forget.  Instead of the typical blog post I will give a run down of the wonderful weekend in the D.C./Maryland area.

The weekend started with a flight out of Logan into Reagan National Airport in Washington D.C. at 5pm with my parents.  I had a solid conversation with my coach, Tim Catoggio, on Wednesday last week and one piece of advice he gave me was to wear compression socks on the plane so they didn't get swollen from being in a d...

One More Week

This past week was all about boosting our fundraising efforts and thinking of unique ways to do so.  Our national effort has been of great support with most donations coming out of state as we approach 60k.  The younger group, which will travel to Virginia for the half marathon in June, of myself, Alix Marcus, Tiffany Ko, Brian Teague and Jimmy Anastasi began to contact national corporations.  We are also planning events like bake sales, basketball/volleyball tournaments, and pub crawls to bo...

Mental Fortitude

Another week passes by and another week of excitement.  I'll start this week off by updating on the fundraising effort.

The big news is that according to our numbers we are officially above the $50,000 mark.  There may be a discrepancy between our numbers and CCFA's so we'll sort that out towards the end (not sure if it's higher or lower than what they say).  Ticket sales have also begun to pickup for the L O C O event so that is exciting for what will be a great event.  The New England Pa...

This photo was the one used in The Easton Journal and is my claim to fame. The one in the red is Nick Wade, who is currently running for Cornell and was all-state champion multiple times. The one in the green is Ryan Collins who currently runs for Virginia and runs sub-14 for a 5k and is an All-American in Cross Country.

Hello everyone, it's been another solid week of training.  Fundraising has slowed slightly but that is expected after the wild first month we had.

I'll start this post by discussing the training.  My coach, Tim Cattoggio, and I have been discussing the final three week stretch and I am getting more and more pumped.  The beginning of this week started with a few recovery runs from the 23-miler hard effort last Sunday.  I also incorporated running twice a few days this week just to shakeout...

Biggest Run

So this was a pretty big week.  My coach, Tim Cattogio, gave me the final 6 weeks of training and I can't wait to finish up this final stretch and do this marathon.  This week was pretty much just mileage runs with a tempo 80-minute run.

However, today was arguably my most important run for marathon training.  I did a 23 mile run in 2 hours, 30 minutes which is roughly 6:35 pace.  The middle 18.75 miles were done in just over 2 hours which was around 6:25 pace. This is a pretty good indica...

First Race since 2009

This past week was a fantastic week of training.  I'm currently five weeks away from my first marathon and am getting more and more excited every day.  I haven't been this excited for training in a very long time.  The fundraising especially makes it exciting as we are within a few more checks of our goal of $35,000.  Now that it's a national effort we expect to completely destroy this goal.

This week of training was especially great because it included my first race since September 2009.  An...

Back to School

This week was another good week of training and fundraising.  It was also our first week back to school at Stonehill College for the spring semester.  Some of my classes were also cancelled due to the snow storm.  The snow didn't really hinder my training too bad besides on Tuesday.  On Tuesday I did an 80 minute run with hills for the middle 40 minutes.  So, I felt like I was putting in a lot of effort and going fast up the hills but I found out when I got back that it was slower than I wa...

Good Week with Bitter End

We have had another successful week of fundraising and training.  This week was my last week of winter break and I got in two workouts, four easy runs, and a long run.  The conditions were kind of tough running on roads but I was able to do it safely.  Until Sunday.

On Sunday I did a 1 hour, 55 minute long run which ended up covering 17 miles.  I started to have a bit of lower back pain during the middle miles so stretched out a bit but I don't think it's anything serious.  However, at abou...

I've been busy the last couple weeks for New Year's so wasn't able to post anything.  I did a lot of traveling by going to New York City for New Year's weekend and then went on a ski trip after it.

Two weeks ago my training was inconsistent due to all the traveling.  However, this past week was very good.  I followed Tim Cattogio's training schedule and did two workouts, three easy runs, a medium long run, and a long run.  My first workout was a 12x1...

Happy Holidays

Hello Everyone,

Over the past week I have been doing training on a treadmill.  My week has been all 8-mile runs and then a 14-mile long run.  I'd like to give a shoutout to former Stonehill College runner, Tim Cattogio, who is giving me advice for my marathon and ran a 2:32 marathon in his debut in October and is currently training for the Boston Marathon.  Locally, he holds the course record in the Easton Turkey Trot 5-miler.  Great guy and talented runner.  Along with the treadmill runn...
