Boston Marathon and Wiffleball

    By: Jake Marcus

So I ran my first Boston Marathon about three weeks ago and it didn’t exactly go according to plan.  Even though it didn’t go as planned, it was still an unreal experience.

The week leading up to the race I made sure to do everything properly, hydrating, stretching, and rest.  I made sure to get all of my schoolwork out of the way and felt great going into the weekend.  However, an x-factor came into play as reports of record high tempe...

2nd Annual L O C O Event

Inaugural Wiffle Ball Tournament
Inaugural Wiffle Ball Tournament

By: Jake Marcus

Hey everybody, I"ve been super busy so haven't been able to post, but we had our L O C O event a few weeks ago.  Even though last year's inaugural event was great, this one may have been better.  We met capacity in attendance as Jim Messinger and the staff did an excellent job with food and drinks.  Carol Lang, Carol Augustyniak, Brenda Contois and my grandparents worked like crazy to get the over 50 auction/raffle items ready.  Needless to say, it was a memorable night.  ...

And we're off...

By: Jake Marcus

Hey everybody, sorry for the lack of blog posts but my final semester of college has kept me pretty busy.  Between my five challenging classes, internship at Morgan Stanley, mentoring Team Challenge, training for the Boston Marathon, and trying to have a social life before I get into the real world has been an interesting balancing act.

Anyways, Team Intestinal Fortitude has quietly been making moves this year as we are above the $50,000 mark!  Last year by the L O C O event...

Hey everybody, I hope you all had great holidays and are enjoying 2012 so far.  Team Intestinal Fortitude is back in the swing of things after the Vegas race and have begun our fundraising efforts for this year.  We have already had a few meetings to figure every out for the year.  We sent out our mass e-mails and mailing lists from last year which had a couple typos on it but we fixed it and apologize for indundating anyone with letters.  We have also made a Team Intesti...

Las Vegas Rock N' Roll Marathon/Half-Marathon

 By: Jake Marcus

We had the Las Vegas marathon and half-marathon this weekend for Team Challenge and it lived up to all expectations.  I'll just give a run-down of the weekend from the start as well as I can.  We've been actively doing other things for Intestinal Fortitude but this weekend deserves it's own post entirely.

I arrived on Friday afternoon and went for a quick shakeout run after the plane ride to get rid of some of the swelling from the flight.  On my run, I realized Vegas was r...

Holiday Season Preparations

L O C O Event March 13th, 2012
L O C O Event March 13th, 2012

By: Jake Marcus

So as we pass Halloween and heads towards Thanksgiving, Team Intestinal Fortitude Inc. is busy as ever.  Let's get to it...

First and foremost, what I am most excited about is the CCFA event in Vegas where myself and committee members/friends Brian Teague, Alix Marcus, and Tiffany Ko will all be toeing the lin.  After a week off, I am back to serious training and this time around I will be doing hard workouts with not as long, long runs.  Seeing as the race is about a month...

ING Hartford Marathon

By: Jake Marcus

Last week, I completed my second marathon.  I felt great, but didn't run as fast as last time.  I was a minute and a half away from my first marathon although, from the turnaround point at mile 17 to the finish, the headwinds were vicious.  Even though they say there is a mental wall at mile 20 of every marathon, I felt like I hit a wall as the wind was very tough to get through.

Anyways, I took it really easy the week before and then took a bus on Friday.  My friend from co...

Born to Run

By: Jake Marcus

As you can see below, Brian and Alix have both started there blogs.  We have been discussing a lot of plans for fundraising, but are still unsure how we will implement these ideas so I don't want to say too much yet.  Expect more events this year, hopefully hitting different demographics in all of them.  Already, my sister and Tiffany Ko are planning an event in San Francisco.  I'm not exactly sure what they are planning to do but they received $250 from Whole Foods (thank...

For most, September is a month that conjures mixed emotions. Some see it as a terrible month that brings the end of summer, while others get excited to get the kids back to school. Personally, this September has brought me to the start of a fantastic journey, as I will begin training for my first half marathon.

This past year, I was lucky enough to be involved in the creation of Team Intestinal Fortitude.  This is a “chapter” of the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of...

Ramblin' (wo)Man by ALIX

By: Alix Marcus

When I signed up to run with Team Challenge, I was at a much more stable place in my life. I was in the groove of being back in Boston for a couple months with a full schedule of teaching and dancing, along with doing the individual training, group runs, meetings, kick-offs, and all that other fun stuff that goes along with signing up to complete a ½ marathon . Did I mention the marathon is in Vegas? How sick is that? Therein lies the real reason (Dad, you were a close secon...
